Step by step
I have been learning spanish for many years now and I am completely enamored with the language. It's sonority, how mellow it is, the way different latin-american accents make the it sound like almost different languages on their own.
There is this nice song from a group from Barcelona called Estopa from the early 2000s that states:
Como dijo Jack el destripador, vamos por partes.
Which translates to "Like Jack The Ripper said, let's take it one step at a time".
Once again I am struggling with side-project & learning things commitment issues. There are a bunch of things I've been trying to learn or do, both work related or not, here they are in no particular order:
- Learning basic arabic vocabulary and grammar, I've already learnt how to read & write the alphabet.
- Getting an economics certification my job is paying for and I got around 6 months to study it.
- Working on a small side project I suspect might bring me some money but being extremly lean about it and not overdoing it. This means no kubernetes, no fancy cloud stuff, just trying to make a docker-compose run somewhere as best as I can while I test for product-market fit. I've This is a challenge for me because I've never had to be scrappy about how I deploy things, working in freshly invested startups normally mean they've got enough money for infrastructure and engineering and the rest of the cash they'll burn on sales & marketing.
- Learning about taxes in my home country to be able to claw back as little money as I can in tax reductions.
- Hardcode budgeting for me and my partner as we're now living in a new city and we want to save up money for later.
- I've been also meaning to write a long article about the looks of the current tech situation now as opposed to when I started working, and how it's being an absolute eye-opener in taking measures towards being as self-sufficient and not depend on any single employer or a fixed skillset that is in fashion at the moment, and what shape could that step take.
I get anxious just by writing this! Too many open fronts that have to be cared for on top of my day job, fitness routine and leaving some space for leisure! Why do we swamp ourselves with endless activities to fill up our days!🐅
Vamos por partes
Let's double down on the certification by dedicating 1 hour per day, and the rest of my time coding as much as I can without burning out on my side project. There's no deadline, there's no angry investors behind me, one step at a time.
