Appreciating effort
It has always been common understanding that in the arts we placed extreme importance on the technical excellence we see reflected upon the produced object.
Meaning, when we appreciated a picture, a painting or written word, perceiving it as flawless would increase our appreciation of it. On the other hand, small mishaps or inconsistencies also added "character" and a human layer to the piece.
With AI, the weight of both traits has switched the balance. Now every text run through an LLM can sound as pompous as we want, crunching words at the desired tone and complexity as we feel. Text-to-image models can be asked to create pictures in "renaissance" style and be presented with amazing output after some prompt tuning.
It is now that I come to greatly appreciate reading articles that contain mistakes, grammar inconsistencies, direct translations from expressions in the author's native tongue into english that don't quite match (like myself), and hard takes in rough language.
It is refreshing to read thought pieces that don't contain double dashes, as in: "Something something-- then something something" that LLMs love so much, because I now place even more weight and appreciation into the effort the author invested and the quality of the piece, whereas before the former was assumed* and we could only focus on the latter.
*Although this could also be subverted by hiring a ghost writer, but then I appreciate the ghost writer's skills, same same.
